EXOTHERMIC WELDING

What are the advantages of the new exothermic welding technology ?

In the construction process of building lightning protection, exothermic welding, this welding technology is extremely important. Exothermic welding (also known as thermite welding) is a method that uses overheated molten metal produced by exothermic reaction between metal oxide and metal aluminum to heat metals and realize bonding.

Compared with the traditional welding technology, its advantages are as follows:

The current cut-off of the welding point is equal to that of the wire, and the welding point is permanent, which will not cause high resistance due to looseness or corrosion.

The welding point is like copper, but tougher than copper itself, and is not affected by corrosive products; The welding point can withstand repeated large surge (fault) current without degradation.

There is no ignition powder. The welding technology uses an electronic starter with a rechargeable battery to ignite, and there is no ignition powder, which makes the welding equipment easy to transport, safe and not affected by wind during construction.

With the layered design of metal powder, the exothermic welding metal powder is put into the cup in two layers and reacted twice, which makes the reaction of thermite more complete and the flame length shorter.

It is safer and more convenient in technology. The exothermic welding technology is simple and easy to use; The equipment is light and convenient to carry; During exothermic welding, no external power supply or heat source is needed, and the welding quality can be checked from the appearance.

Surfaces Of Exothermic Welding

The surface of a good exothermic welding spot should be full and bright, free of air holes and slag inclusion. After cutting, its cross-section is integrated without air holes and defects. However, the main reason that affects the welding effect in the process of building lightning protection system is moisture or water vapor. Because the mold, welding powder and welded objects may absorb water, how to prevent or drive away water vapor is the most important step that must be taken during welding. Another factor that affects the welding effect is the cleanliness of the mold and the welded object. For example, the dust, grease, oxide or other attachments on the surface of the welded object must be removed to make it clean and bright before welding, otherwise the electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of the welded joint after exothermic welding will be affected. If the residue left in the mold is not completely removed, the solder joint surface will be unsmooth and not bright.
